By the morning of July 5, the folding chairs are gone from Second Street Pike and the last funnel cake wrappers have been swept out of Tamanend Park. The 51st Southampton Days Country Fair ran June 29 through July 4 this year, and for six days the whole township more or less pointed itself at 1351 Second Street Pike. Then it ended.
What locals who have lived here a few summers already know, and what newer residents tend to figure out by their second July, is that the fair is a spike, not a season. The neighborhood's steadier summer rhythm sits about two miles south on Bridgetown Pike, and it runs on a monthly cadence rather than an annual one.
The handoff nobody advertises
The thesis of this post is small and specific. Southampton's summer center of gravity moves after the Fourth. The Sam Costantini Parade and the 9:35 p.m. fireworks belong to Tamanend and to Upper Southampton. From mid-July through the fall, the more reliable weeknight gathering is the Playwicki Farm Foundation's Second Friday rally down in Feasterville. If you are trying to plan the rest of July and August around something other than a backyard grill, that is where to look.
What Second Friday actually is
Second Friday runs 5 to 8 p.m. at Playwicki Farm, 2350 Bridgetown Pike. The next two dates on the calendar are July 10 and August 14. The property is a 110-acre farm at 2350 Bridgetown Pike in Feasterville, held by a nonprofit foundation established in September 1996 to preserve the historic buildings and grounds.
A few practical notes worth knowing before you walk over:
- The rallies feature a disc jockey, food trucks, local vendors and crafters, plus a beer and cocktail garden for adults, and children can enjoy a moon bounce, balloon art, and pony rides.
- Parking is free, and the foundation is explicit that this is not a food truck rally in the strip-mall-parking-lot sense. The lineup rotates, the setting is a working historic farm, and the money goes back into the buildings.
- Proceeds directly support the repair, maintenance, and preservation of the historic farm buildings and grounds, which is worth remembering the next time someone in the township asks what a $12 barbecue sandwich actually buys.
The reason Second Friday matters more than a typical food truck night is the anchor. Playwicki is not a pop-up. The foundation also runs Donation Days on the last Sunday of the month from February to November, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and its fall and winter calendar carries the community through Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 3 from noon to 4 p.m., and Holiday at the Farm on December 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Second Friday is the summer face of a year-round operation.
Tamanend after the crowds
Tamanend Park does not go quiet in July. It just stops being a fairground and goes back to being a park. Upper Southampton lists the amenities plainly on its facilities page: Carriage House, Disc Golf Course, Farmhouse Lower, Lion's Grove Amphitheater, Pavilion 1 with fireplace, Pavilion 2, all at 1255 Second Street Pike.
Two of those are worth a second look in the middle of a hot week. The disc golf course is free and shaded through most of its back nine, which is a rare combination in Bucks County in August. Lion's Grove Amphitheater is the small outdoor stage that hosts the Southampton Community Band during fair week and sits empty most other evenings. It is the kind of space that rewards a folding chair, a book, and a thermos, and almost nobody uses it that way.
If you have kids in a summer camp week, the township's own program list is worth a scroll. Upper Southampton Parks and Recreation is running Creative Theatre (Summer) for ages 11 to 14 as a 7-week full camp, plus Tiny Tumbles Gymnastics Camp and Nature Pottery: Wild Clay Wonders in half- and full-day formats. The pottery camp in particular tends to fill quickly because the class caps are small.
The Pike is still cooking
Bucks County restaurant news in early 2026 skewed north. Shake Shack announced its first Bucks location for the Barn Plaza shopping center on Route 611 and Almshouse Road in Doylestown Township, and Mélange on Sycamore held a soft opening in Newtown Township at the site of the former Sycamore Grill in April. Neither of those is a five-minute drive from Southampton, and neither changes the daily calculus of where to eat here.
What has not changed is the Pike itself. The Churchville Inn at 1500 Bustleton Pike, the premiere Bucks County craft restaurant since 1985, is still doing what it has done for forty years. Their own description of the property is worth reading if you have never sat upstairs, because it explains why the room feels the way it does: the restaurant was named after a large custom mural designed by a local artist using reclaimed barn wood from historical barns in the area, and the mural tells the story of the history of the local Bucks County community. In July and August, the rooftop seating is a summer must, and the Upstairs Bar Room stays cool even on the worst humid nights because of the wrap-around windows.
The Iron Oven is the other steady name. It is a family-owned restaurant and bar in Bucks County serving New American cuisine with appetizers, pizza, stromboli, steak, seafood, and vegetarian options, and its brunch, lunch, and dinner service runs handcrafted cocktails, local brews, and fine wines alongside monthly specials that showcase the freshest seasonal ingredients. If you are hosting relatives from out of town in August and you do not want to drive them to Newtown or Doylestown, those two rooms cover most occasions.
The one July date most people miss
Buried in the Playwicki Farm Foundation's 2026 calendar is a small event that is not on most residents' radar and is worth flagging if you have a dog. On Sunday, July 19, from noon to 4 p.m., the foundation runs one of its Nail Trimming Events for Dogs at $15. It repeats on September 13. That is a $15 line item that most groomers in the Southampton area price closer to $20 to $25 for a walk-in, and the proceeds stay in the township.
The point of mentioning it is not the price. The point is that Playwicki runs on this kind of texture. A dog nail-trim afternoon in July, a flea market in October, Holiday at the Farm in December. The Second Friday food truck rallies are the front door, but they are attached to a much larger operation that quietly does the work of holding a summer together for residents who have already outgrown the novelty of the fair.
How to actually plan the next six weeks
